Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, the largest gun violence prevention organization in America, is committed to ending gun violence and saving lives by implementing smarter gun policies. To hold elected officials accountable and demand they take action, Everytown needs to quickly activate segments of their list to make calls to federal and state representatives throughout legislative sessions. In South Carolina, lawmakers were preparing to vote on a bill that would allow permitless carry.

Everytown needed a way to quickly patch South Carolina residents to their elected officials over phone calls. They needed to be able to collect address data on supporters, provide key talking points with an audio message, and accurately match callers to their state Senator. Strive Messaging helped Everytown launch a rapid response campaign to mobilize their supporters to take action.

Strategy

In the days leading up to the Senate floor vote, Everytown filtered their list of supporters by state to build a broadcast audience. Broadcasting to South Carolina residents, Everytown first asked supporters to provide their street address. Once collected, supporters would be prompted to reply CALL, which initiated a call from a South Carolina VoIP number.

Callers would hear a custom audio message with key talking points, so callers felt confident speaking to Senate office staff. Callers were then patched to their elected Senator based on the address data they provided in the initial message of Everytown’s broadcast.

This address data was saved to their supporter list so Everytown could streamline future outreach by skipping collect info questions for supporters who have already provided the info.

Results

With Strive’s performant list segmentation, Everytown was able to create an audience of South Carolina residents in less than 30 seconds. Because Strive sends lightning fast by default, Everytown could optionally slow send speeds so that senate offices were able to handle a manageable volume of inbound call traffic.
